Yes, you read that right… A sitting supreme court justice of well over 20 years made this claim when discussing a controversial Louisiana abortion bill during an hour of arguments at the US Supreme Court this week.
Louisiana Act 620
The point of contention here according to Justice Ginsburg is the portion of the Louisiana bill – Act 620 – which requires physicians who perform abortions to hold “active admitting privileges” at a hospital within 30 miles of their facility. One would think it is beneficial to both the mother and the baby should the baby survive the abortion process. Then again to many on the left and Democrats alike, it’s clear they see the unborn child as nothing more than a sack of cells.
This was made abundantly clear when Virginia governor Ralph Northam spoke about third-trimester abortion procedures.
Justice Ginsburg the Doctor
As we watch the coronavirus run rampant throughout the world, cirticism over the comments by the President are becoming more prevelant than the disease itself. Yes President Trump isn’t a doctor and he should tread lightly when it comes to comments he makes pertaining to the virus. This same sentiment should be applied when taking advice from Justice Ginsburg when it comes to abortion.
Justice Ginsburg’s following statements should have us all shaking our heads. In effect we should come to the realization that maybe abortion shouldn’t be left up to a handful of judges and quite possibly abortion should become a state issue altogether. While this may dissuade some, if we want to be consistent on our view of the Constitution the states would have the ability to rule on abortion.
Nonetheless the comments made by Ginsburg are rather scary…
“If the woman has a problem, it will be her local hospital that she will need to go to for the care, not something 30 miles from the clinic, which does not have a necessary relationship to where she lives”
“Most of the people who get abortions never have any need to go to a hospital, isn’t that so?” she asked the attorneys, later adding: “You don’t dispute … that among medical procedures, first-trimester abortion is among the safest, far safer than childbirth.”
Abortion Death Rate
I don’t claim to be a doctor myself, but I’m sure we can all agree that abortion is in no way safer than childbirth given the fact that in an abortion the baby dies nearly 100% of the time.
